We left Bass Lake and headed to the Desolation Wilderness outside of Tahoe for a little anniversary backpack. It was a sweet getaway and was so much fun to explore a new area.

The picture above is us repacking in the parking lot -- a classic Mackler scene.
Hiking in without a trail up rocky faces was a beast-- but the views were fantastic!

Can't remember the name of this Lake, but you can see where the Desolation Wilderness gets its name. Such a beautiful, stark landscape.

Near our campsite by the river. Good for a little dip at the end of a long day!

Our camp at 1/2 Moon Lake.

Looking down on Falling Leaf lake.

Chase looking at the map. It seemed we were doing a lot of this. The snowbanks make the trail very easy to lose, and we got a little "lost" (within reason) a few times. Nothing a trusty map and compass couldn't rectify.

The trail out. The flowers were epic.

I wouldn't recommend this trail. It is 5 miles of steep. Going down was brutal, but I just can't imagine what going up would have been like.

All in all it was a happy trip, to celebrate an even happier 4 years....
