Yesterday we floated down the Santa Ynez River on inflatable kayaks with our friends Chelsea and Jeff. It proved to be an incredible adventure, albeit pure treachery. By the time we realized what we had gotten ourselves into, it was too late to turn back.
Here we are looking optimistic since it is the beginning of our journey. Notice the trusty "Sevylor" inflatables and blow-up inner tube, both of which had already received impromptu duct tape repairs in the parking lot.
The aforementioned duct tape repair
Jeff and Chase gearing up for The Gauntlet. Note the matching safety whistles.
Turns out our vessels were less than seaworthy. One of the kayaks deflated pretty quickly and could only hold one person, and the inner-tube had to be blown up mid-journey. Above you can see Jeff freeloading.
This is how rafters on the professional circuit deflate their vessels.
Soaked, scratched up, and glad to still be in the land of the living.
Below you can view videos of Jeff and Chase running the Gauntlet. Don't worry, Jeff was not hurt during the making of this video.
